As we head towards Christmas my in country Spanish CPD and Business adventure is concluding but it is such a pleasure to have the opportunity to spend my “Winter” 14th December birthday in the warmth of the Andaluz Atlantic sea air and to take in the Spanish Christmas decor!

And what better than being out on a birthday bike ride and a “little” Spanish brithday treat to celebrate – combinación de sabores (flavours) selected by the vendor for that extra ice cream birthday surprise!

Visiting Cadiz and seeing all of the Christmas decorations a real treat and after my exploration of this beautiful area these past 3 months (and happily now knowing the bus routes!) I feel very much at home at getting from A to B and beyond! And with no car  – walking, biking and on the bus in the Spanish sunshine an extra fitness bonus (not planned for in advance) including the opportunity for a short term membership of a fitness club with 25m swimming pool and steam bath! Does life get any better?

There is no doubt that for this complete beginner in Spanish setting out to learn the Spanish Language commencing with lessons online in Wales with teacher Lindsay provided the perfect start and foundation to then land in Spain and get on with the learning myself!

It is clear that due to the Spanish accent of this southern most part of Spain it is certainly a real test for this beginner as even Spanish people from Madrid explained it is often a test for them as previously highlighted!

However, this is where tuning into political programmes and the news on the National tele provided lots and lots of vocabulary across the widest range of subjects and in a variety of Spanish dialects, dialects españoles to mix and match the beautiful music of the Spanish language.

My work in Education these past 12 years (www.cerrigcamu.uk) focusing on bringing the power of International Languages to the attention of pupils considering their GCSE options now has una dimensión extra as I have undertaken the self-learning approach to language learning and the gathering of my own specialist business and general vocabulary that I have always advocated and encourage pupils to consider.

With the opportunity of sharing learning, I will of course be taking my personal Spanish vocab book gathered these past weeks into schools in 2025 to present to pupils truly demonstrating practicing what you are preaching – Practicando lo due estáspredicando!

In conclusion, for now at least a very big thank you to my tutor Lindsay for all of her support and language learning insight designed around specific business use and it is Lindsay who will be competing the last chapter of this 20 x part Language Learning Blog with her reflections on this complete beginner Language Learning Case Study and wishing you happy language learning studies ahead.

Adios por ahora!
